SELF SUFFICIENCY OFF GRID AND ECO LIVING
More and more of us are positively exploring ways in which we can begin to lead our lives in a way that takes less toll on nature and our environment whilst empowering us to become more self sufficient and less dependent for power and food from the normal sources, that is to say, the energy companies who over charge us whilst destroying the environment and the supermarkets who often ship food in from 15,000 miles away that can be found locally causing needless damage to the environment unnecessary costs on transport and expense passed on to the customer.
With this in mind, eco living and self sufficiency are becoming an increasingly attractive proposition. Clearly there are different degrees of living the eco life. Where some of us would make a conscious effort to buy unleaded and wherever possible use only environmentally friendly eco products, others take it a step further. Installing renewable power sources such as solar power or wind and water turbines can help dependence on the energy companies and some people take this to the stage where they can live off grid completely. Along with learning how to grow your own food using organic and permaculture techniques there is a real possibility of self sufficiency becoming an attractive and a plausible option for those who want to make eco living a way of life.
We have added some resources to this page to help get people started on the road to self sufficiency. We also suggest visiting some of the websites linked in to this introduction as well as taking part in the Green Forum, a discussion board for those interested in green issues, growing vegetables, medicinal plants and the eco life
